Genet Camp

Genet Camp is true wilderness safari camping experience.

Sandwiched between the Chobe National Park and The Moremi Game Reserve is the Khwai. Widely acknowledged as one of the finest areas for game viewing in Botswana. The wildlife including leopard, lion, wild dogs and hyena have been the subject matter of countless international award winning documentaries, and the area remains a showpiece in the Botswanan Conservation stable. The campsite is only accessible by road from Maun or Kasane, but can be inaccessible during the rainy season when the area can become flooded.

Perennial water availability in the Khwai River as well as in the surrounding Savuti and Moremi. create the ideal oasis environment in an otherwise arid environment. Coupled with Botswana rich history on conservation makes the Khwai a natural refuge for diverse and numerous wild animal population. The Khwai epitomises African Wildlife Safari and is an example of how tourism and wildlife should engage. Your camera will record many wonderful sightings, but deeper emotive memories of your time spent so close to the natural world will forever remind you of this special place.

Game viewing is possible by vehicle, mekoro and on walks. Accompanied by your knowledgeable guide you will encounter the wild and some of the more fascinating of its residents.

Best time to visit Genet Camp

Like much of Africa, Botswana is, generally speaking, warm throughout the year; even its coolest period, from June to September, varies little from the rest of the year, reaching heights of around 24˚C at times. The coolest period, notably, is also the height of the tourist season, since, besides being the least hot, it is also the period with the lowest volume of rain, and the highest concentration of wild animals out in the region’s sprawling natural parks. Go during this time, and your experience will be a little cooler and a little drier, and involve a few more sightings of wild wonders; but go more or less any other time, and any weather differences will be, for the most part, negligible. Please be aware that accessibility to Mongoose and Genet are water lever dependant – at times there may not be enough water to reach Mongoose Delta by boat or too much water to reach Genet Camp by road.
