Otter Island Camp
Otter Island Camp is situated on the Zambian side of the majestic Zambezi River on an island within the Katombora rapid system. Within easy transfer from either Vic Falls (Zimbabwe), Livingston (Zambia) or Kasane (Botswana) the Camp offers a truly unique African safari experience.
First described (in English) by David Livingstone on his early explorations into Southern Africa, the islands have remained unchanged by time and offer the seasoned Eco-traveler an opportunity to get close to nature without electricity or motorised vehicles. Days are spent rocking in hammocks, being gently poled in mekoros through the network of river channels or enjoying cocktails at the beach-bar. Time unfolds slowly in these parts as the river tumbles and flows. The rustic camp blends into the environment, and is in keeping with our small-footprint ethos. The camp is committed to minimal impact tourism in this sensitive ecosystem. Each of our five environmentally friendly en-suite thatched chalets are stylishly appointed with private river views. Fine food and wine contribute to this experience and the evenings fireside, punctuated by Pe’ls-Fishing Owl calls and fireflies in the forest, make for the most memorable of stays.
Other activities from the camp include bird-watching, tiger-fishing, day-trips game-viewing to the Chobe National Park (Botswana) and to Livingston to experience the Victoria Falls. Otter Island Camp is a destination in itself, but can be added to longer trips across Botswana, camping in the Chobe and Khwai or deep into the Okavango Delta.
Location on the Zambezi river 20km downstream of Kazungula and 60km upstream of Livingstone.

Best time to visit Otter Island Camp and Victoria Falls
Best time to visit Otter Island Camp and Victoria Falls With the world’s largest waterfall as its main feature, the town of Victoria Falls is a great visit at any time of the year. The most popular time to visit would be during the dry season, from November to February. During this time, it gets quite wet, allowing the waterfall to flow at its full potential. However, you may not get the best pictures as it often rains during this season. The best time to visit would therefore be in the dry season, between March and September when the waterfall is least active and you can get close enough for some fantastic shots. You will get the best views of the surrounding areas and also be able to enjoy all the various other activities that the town has to offer. For cheap flights to Victoria Falls, consider visiting between December and February. Fishing at Otters is best during the Laminga run – June till August.Weather & Climate in Victoria Falls
